As Collier County’s top law enforcement officer since 2009, Sheriff Kevin Rambosk has directed the creation of a multitude of programs and initiatives aimed at keeping Collier County safe.
Thanks to Sheriff Rambosk’s leadership, the dedication of our deputies and the partnership of our residents, Collier County is the safest metropolitan county in Florida.
2024
Crash-Free Collier/Traffic Safety - Educating motorists on all of the ways they can drive more safely and avoid crashes is the focus of the Crash-Free Collier safety campaign. Throughout the year deputies targeted red-light runners as well as aggressive driving, and conducted operations to keep school zones and bus stops safe.
Hurricane Response - CCSO responded to back-to-back storms late in the season, Hurricane Helene in September and Hurricane Milton in October, while continuing to fight crime, make arrests and keep the community safe.
Egon Bittner Award - The prestigious award is given to executives whose agencies have received accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) for 15 or more continuous years. It also recognizes recipients for their significant
contributions to the public safety profession and to CALEA.
Community Emergency Response Team - CERT is a training program offered to the community that teaches basic disaster response skills to residents so they can assist first responders and each other during an emergency.
Crisis Care Canine - Sheriff Rambosk recruited the agency’s first Crisis Care Canine. The 4-year-old Golden Retriever named Readington is tasked with providing comfort and emotional support to individuals, especially children, during stressful and critical events.
2023
Laced & Lethal - The groundbreaking Laced & Lethal fentanyl awareness and prevention campaign is the most comprehensive safety initiative in the history of Collier County. This community-wide initiative seeks to eliminate the powerful synthetic opioid fentanyl from Collier County.
CCSO Centennial - CCSO marked its 100-year anniversary with an epic
yearlong community celebration honoring the agency’s service to Collier County while looking ahead to the future.
CCSO INTERCEPT Section - This team of dedicated and highly trained, detectives and investigative specialists are responsible for the investigation of child exploitation-related crimes and human trafficking within Collier County. They are part of the INTERCEPT Task Force, the South Florida Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, and are cross-designated Task Force Officers or Task Force Personnel with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Homeland Security Investigations.
Touch DNA - Through technology, CCSO has strengthened efforts to find and process invisible DNA evidence left at the scene of a crime– and it’s led to more arrests in the crimes that affect citizens the most.
Paul Harris Fellow Honoree - The Rotary Club of Naples Bay recognized Sheriff Rambosk as a Paul Harris Fellow for his decades of service to the community.
2022
National Award for Threat Assessment - CCSO earned a National Award of Excellence from the School Safety Advocacy Council for its ground-breaking Threat Management Program, which helps deputies and school staff identify and address concerning student behaviors before they escalate to threats.
Construction Site Watch Program - This innovative program was named Outstanding Crime Prevention of the Year by the Florida Crime Prevention Association. CCSO partners with construction site managers to curb the theft of materials, appliances and landscaping at construction sites.
2021
Real-Time Operations Center -
Sheriff Rambosk oversaw the creation of CCSO’s Real-Time Operations Center, which features the latest technology tools to prevent crime and support large-scale incident management teams when we have wildfires, hurricanes or significant incidents in which many deputies are needed.
Body-worn cameras - The agency began rolling out body-worn cameras to deputies. The $2.8 million project supplements the in-car camera systems already in place.
Autism Support Project - This community resource was created due to the growing number of students diagnosed with autism in Collier County. It provides training for first responders and educational opportunities in the community.
2020
COVID-19 Response - CCSO was among the earliest law enforcement agencies in the nation to position itself to respond to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic. Protective equipment, policies and procedures were established well ahead of shutdowns across the nation.
Animal Cruelty Investigations Alliance - The mission of the Alliance is to utilize a multi-agency response to proactively investigate alleged cases of animal neglect and cruelty, as well as prevention and public education outreach.
NAACP Humanitarian Award - The NAACP of Collier County surprised Sheriff Rambosk with a Humanitarian Award during the organization’s 37th Annual Freedom Fund Gala. “He values and embraces inclusion and diversity in all of Collier County and he is exceptionally deserving of this Humanitarian Award,” said NAACP President Vincent Keeys when he presented the award.
Protests Response - June brought protests to communities across the nation including Collier County. Deputies successfully responded to multiple protests, protecting the public’s right to peaceful protest while safeguarding citizens and property.
Text Photos/Videos to 911 - CCSO became the first law enforcement jurisdiction in Florida to provide callers with the ability to text-message photos and videos to dispatchers. The technology allows first responders to access pictures and videos of suspects, suspicious vehicles and emergency scenes almost instantly.
Master Plan Award - CCSO was recognized with two prestigious awards for its innovative long-term master plan. The agency earned the Florida Planning and Zoning Association’s Award for Innovation and the Florida Chapter of the American Planning Association’s Award of Merit. Both awards honor a project or development that is ahead of its time.
Florida Sheriffs Risk Management Fund Leadership Award - For reducing crashes involving deputies. Due in part to a new training initiative, crashes involving CCSO deputies were down 28 percent overall in 2019 compared to 2018. At-fault, or avoidable, crashes were down 43 percent over the same period.
2019
Victim Assistance Program Award - The CCSO Victim & Senior Advocacy Unit was named a winner of the 2019 Tadini Bacigalupi Jr. Outstanding Program Award by the National Organization for Victim Assistance. The annual award recognizes a distinguished victim service program.
2018
Outstanding School Safety Plan - In the wake of the Feb. 14 school shooting on Florida’s east coast, CCSO immediately worked with our partners at Collier County Public Schools to ensure that our school campuses continue to be as safe as possible. Collier County was one of the first jurisdictions in Florida to meet and exceed the requirements of the state’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas School Safety Act.
Drone Unit - This unit is used for tactical support, searches for missing children and event documentation. Drones enhance safety and provide deputies on the ground with valuable information well before they arrive on scene.
Community Safety – CCSO conducted active shooter safety presentations for thousands of attendees at various location throughout Collier County.
2017
OD Mapping - CCSO became the first agency in Florida to use a mapping program to track heroin overdoses. The goal is to create a real-time hot-spot map that shows first responders where the drug overdoses are occurring so they can mobilize resources to those areas of concern.
Helicopter - CCSO purchased a Vietnam-era Huey helicopter that has been a valuable tool in search-and-rescue missions and wildfire battles. The purchase through military surplus saved taxpayers millions of dollars.
Irma Response – Before, during and after Hurricane Irma deputies and our fellow first responders kept our community safe. Deputies helped with evacuations, responded to hundreds of calls for service, kept hurricane shelters secure, directed traffic, helped FP&L personnel access remote towers that required repair and provided current and accurate information to our community.
2016
Behavioral Health Bureau – CCSO was among the first law enforcement agencies in the country with a dedicated bureau aimed at helping individuals experiencing mental illness or substance use disorder. The bureau includes deputies and clinicians in partnership with the David Lawrence Centers.
Enhanced 911 Emergency Communication System - Working with all public safety in Collier County CCSO designed, built and implemented a new enhanced 911 emergency communication system. It was the most ambitious system upgrade in the agency’s history.
CIT Program Award - The Florida CIT Coalition honored Sheriff Rambosk with a Gold Standard Certificate for the agency’s commitment to providing specialized Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training. The training gives deputies advanced skills related to interacting with people with mental illness and teaches de-escalation techniques. CCSO was the first law enforcement agency in Florida to be awarded a Gold Standard Certificate.
PulsePoint App - CCSO became the first public agency in Southwest Florida to implement the PulsePoint app. The lifesaving smartphone app takes advantage of citizens and off-duty public safety professionals who are trained in CPR and also willing to assist in the event of an emergency. The app is part of Sheriff Rambosk’s commitment to the community to reduce emergency response times.
Stars in the Arts Award - CCSO earned the prestigious Stars In The Arts Award from the United Arts Council of Collier County for its CommUNITY Gallery, which featured the artwork of various non-profits in Collier County.
Florida Department of Education Commissioner’s Business Recognition Award - For outstanding support of education. The award honors partnerships between local community entities and school districts that benefit students.
Boys & Girls Club of Collier County Award - The prestigious Paragon Award honors those who demonstrate the greatest dedication and impact as advocates for the Boys & Girls Club.
2015
Combatting Nationwide Opioid Crisis – Sheriff Rambosk established the Collier County Heroin Task Force in response to the opioid public health crisis. During this same year CCSO was lead agency in a multi-jurisdiction drug trafficking investigation that spanned South Florida and resulted in the arrests of 17 people and took $2.6 million worth of illegal drugs off the street.
2014
Text-To-911 - CCSO became the first public agency in Florida to provide text-to-911 capability.
Identity Theft Task Force - Sheriff Rambosk led the charge to establish the Collier County Identity Theft Task Force to help members of the community avoid falling victim to identity theft criminals.
Ninja Robbers, Multijurisdictional Task Force - Led to the arrest and conviction of men, dubbed the “ninja robbers,” responsible for seven high-end home-invasion robberies and a commercial robbery locally and additional robberies in other parts of Florida. The defendants have since been sentenced for their crimes.
Active Shooter Training - CCSO conducted school violence safety training for school personnel and conducted active shooter training for all CCSO patrol members.
Youth Relations Award - The CCSO Youth Relations Bureau earned the 2014 Model Agency Award from the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO). The annual award recognizes a law enforcement agency for its creative and innovative approach to school-based policing.
AG Award - Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi honored Sheriff Rambosk with the annual David S. Crawford Law Enforcement Officer Victim Services Award for his service in the community on behalf of victims of domestic violence. CCSO partners with The Shelter in the InVEST program, which helps identify through arrest reports those victims who are in
potentially lethal situations. Members of CCSO’s Domestic Violence Section works closely with the Shelter. Sheriff Rambosk is the only Sheriff to receive this award.
SAR Award - The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution presented Sheriff Rambosk with its Bronze Citizenship Medal for his more than 30 years of service to his community.
Shelter For Abused Women & Children Award - This award was presented to Sheriff Rambosk in special recognition for his commitment to safe homes in Collier County.
Drug Free Collier Leading By Example Award - This award is presented in appreciation for protecting the children of Collier County and supporting community solutions for the prevention of substance abuse.
2013
The Great Recession - Sheriff Rambosk navigated the agency through the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression, saving taxpayers $20.6 million, or a cumulative $48 million over the course of his first four years in office. Despite these reductions Sheriff Rambosk found a way to not only maintain, but increase services, reduce crime and avoid agency layoffs.
Chamber Award - The Greater Naples Chamber of Commerce presented Sheriff Rambosk with the Excellence in Leadership Award, which recognizes a leader who has taken an active role in making Collier County the best place to live and do business.
Gated Community Award - The Sheriff was presented with the Dedicated Service Award by the Gated Community Security Management Association. The award recognized the work the Sheriff did to assist in the development of advanced training standards for gated community security professionals in Florida. As a result of Sheriff Rambosk’s efforts, a 40-hour training
program was developed and is taught to gated security professionals.
FSA Conference - CCSO was the host of the 2013 Florida Sheriffs Association’s summer conference at the Marco Island Marriott Beach Resort. This event brought more than 1,000 people to Collier County for four days, resulting in a significant and positive financial effect on local businesses.
Safe Communities - Launched Celebrating Safe Communities events in all six Patrol districts.
More Deputies in Schools – CCSO earned a $500,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice to put more deputies in schools.
Accreditation – CCSO was awarded Excelsior Status from the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation. Excelsior Status is the CFA’s highest recognition for continued excellence in the field of law enforcement accreditation. The Jail Division was also reaccredited as an Excelsior Agency by the Florida Corrections Accreditation Commission.
2012
Fraud Hotline - CCSO launched its “Call Before You Pay” fraud hotline as a resource for people when they receive suspicious e-mails, text-messages or other forms of communication demanding money or personal information. The phone line is staffed by a CCSO Financial Crimes deputy.
Safety Campaign Award - CCSO created the award-winning grassroots community “Stop Texting and Driving” campaign that helped Florida enact a law that made it illegal to text-message behind the wheel.
2011
Data Driven Approaches to Crime and Safety - A program that integrates location-based crime and traffic data to establish the most effective and efficient methods for deploying law enforcement and other resources.
Mobile App Launched - A free iPhone app, CCSO2go, became the newest addition to the agency’s social media platform. Created in-house at no additional cost to taxpayers, the app was among the first in Florida among law enforcement agencies.
Second Chance Cell Dog Program - This partnership between CCSO, the Humane Society of Naples and the Southwest Florida Professional Dog Trainers Alliance teaches inmates how to obedience-train dogs to make them more adoptable. The program teaches inmates life and career skills along the way.
2010
Youth Resource Center - Sheriff Rambosk led the multi-agency creation of the Youth Resource Center, which offers an array of referral services to at-risk youth. Headquartered at the Collier County Courthouse, the center acts as the hub for youth-centered services available in the community.
Summerfest – Sheriff Rambosk’s ambitious slate of youth program launched and was made possible with the help of more than 200 community partners. During Summerfest deputies oversee an array of free, fun and safe activities for thousands of Collier County students on summer break.
Have a Ball - Sheriff Rambosk didn’t stop with Summerfest. He also launched “Have A Ball This Summer.” Throughout the summer the trunks of patrol cars carried a basketball, football and soccer ball. If a deputy was between calls and spotted kids congregating, he or she would stop, take out a ball and toss it around with them. At the end of the encounter, the deputy left the ball with the kids as a memento. Both Summerfest and Have a Ball were geared toward building relationships between kids and deputies, while engaging them in a positive activity and leaving them with a positive impression of law enforcement officers.
Community Gallery - The gallery was created in partnership with local nonprofit organizations dedicated to improving the quality of life for Collier County residents.
2009
Online Crime Reporting And Online Crime Mapping - Citizens wishing to report certain crimes in Collier County can now do so from home without meeting with a deputy, thanks to CCSO’s online crime reporting. Online crime maps help keep the community informed of what’s going on in their neighborhood. Both are available at www.colliersheriff.org.
Community Safety Plan - Sheriff Rambosk took the groundbreaking approach of drawing the community into the process. Working with the community, CCSO identified five areas of focus

- traffic safety
- crime prevention
- community outreach
- communication
The CCSO Community Safety Plan set a roadmap for a safe Collier County. This process earned the agency the prestigious Innovation Award from the Economic Development Council of Collier County in 2010.
Community Safety Teams - Citizens partner with deputies to help address code enforcement and other problems at the neighborhood level.
AED-Equipped Patrol Cars - Thanks to a partnership between CCSO and the American Heart Association, all agency patrol cars were equipped with a life-saving automated external defibrillator.
INVEST - CCSO became part of the Intimate Violence Enhanced Services Team, or INVEST, a program through which CCSO, The Shelter for Abused Women & Children and other agencies to work together to identify and address cases of domestic violence.
