moves into your area.

When a Sexual Offender or Sexual Predator is released from Incarceration, moves into Collier County or changes their address either permanently or temporarily (5 days consecutively or 5 days aggregately in a year) there are several activities that take place.

First the Offender/Predator must register with the Sheriff of the County. They are then required to re-register during the month of their birthday and then again either in 3 or 6 month, depending on their convection.

Besides the requirement for registering each must sign a document indication they understand their limitations as outlined in Florida Statutes. Offenders/Predators under Dept. of Corrections (DOC) supervision must have their residence location approved by DOC. These locations adhere to more stringent guidelines than those of non-supervised offenders/predators.

Some unsupervised offenders/predators are still restricted from living within 1,000 feet of a school bus stop, licensed day care or school depending on their conviction.

Whenever a violator has met the Sexual Predator criteria, and is released from incarceration, moves into Collier County or changes their address either permanently of temporarily (5 days consecutively or 5 days aggregately in a year) the sheriff’s office is required to make a community and public notifications as deemed appropriate. These notifications may include the following:

A bulletin depicting the Predator, with a current address is distributed to all school resource officers and district patrol deputies.

  • A fax broadcast of the bulletin is delivered to all Dept of Children and Family licensed daycares within a 1 miles radius of the Predators address.
  • Depending on the neighborhood where the predator resides, deputies may walk the neighborhood distributing bulletins or hold public / neighborhood meetings.
  • Information about this Predator (and all other offenders/predators) is distributed to the schools (public and private) for dissemination to staff, which often includes bus drivers.
  • A public notice describing the Predator, with a photo, is distributed to all local news media (print and broadcast) indicating the arrival or change of address of the Sexual Predator; for dissemination to the public in newspapers and the television.
  • The Sexual Predator's information is also verified, updated and included on both the FDLE website and the Sheriff's local website.
  • The Sheriff's Crime Prevention Bureau also receives information for distribution through Neighborhood Watch meetings, and other crime prevention activities. This may also include notifications and bulletins being distributed to retail outlets (the mall) and theaters.

NOTE: Many of these actions are required by law only for those subjects who have been court designated as a Sexual Predator. Although these same notifications are authorized for Sex Offenders, they are not required by law.
