CCSO Seeks Witnesses To Fatal Crash

Post Date:12/01/2017 9:05 AM
Collier County Sheriff’s Office detectives want to talk to a man and woman who witnessed a November 11 hit-and-run crash in East Naples that resulted in the death of a 13-year-old boy. An arrest has been made in the case, but detectives are working to ensure that they have as much information as possible.

A deputy working at the crash site the night of the incident obtained information from the man and woman and detectives working the investigation would like to speak with them again. They had been in a truck that was traveling behind the suspect’s vehicle. There was also a child with them in the truck.

Detectives ask that this couple contact them at 239-252-9300.

Reports give this account of the crash:

Thirteen-year-old Shayden Colvin, of East Naples, was riding east on Estey Avenue on his bicycle at around 11 p.m. when he was struck by a 2015 Toyota Tundra driven by Pedro Silva-Diaz, 32. Silva-Diaz was on Lakewood Boulevard turning left onto Estey Avenue at the time of the impact, but he continued driving and was stopped by deputies at Green and Sunshine boulevards about 10 minutes later after a witness to the crash called 911.

Shayden was transported to a hospital but died of his injuries the following day.

Silva-Diaz is charged with leaving the scene of a crash resulting in death and driving on an expired license.
