Investigation Links 2 Golden Gate Sexual Batteries; Vigilance Urged

Post Date:07/12/2017 1:30 PM

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in the wake of recent information that links two violent sexual batteries committed less than a year apart in Golden Gate. In addition, the detectives are urging the community to be vigilant about security.

Detectives said the investigation shows that the man who sexually battered a woman June 18, 2017, also committed a similar crime Aug. 1, 2016.

“Detectives have determined that this is the same perpetrator,” said Sgt. Wade Williams, supervisor of the CCSO Exploitation Section, which is investigating both cases.

Sgt. Williams noted that both sexual batteries occurred at the victim’s residence during the early morning hours and the suspect used violence.

CCSO urges the community to be vigilant. It is important to lock your doors and report anything that looks suspicious to law enforcement.

The community can also help by calling 911 to report suspicious activity, such as someone roaming through neighborhoods late at night or in the predawn hours, and by taking a close look at the composite sketch of the suspect in the 2016 sexual battery and reporting information about anyone they know who resembles its general description.

Anyone with information relating to the composite sketch or either sexual battery should contact the Collier County Sheriff’s Office at 239.252.9300, or to remain anonymous and be eligible for a reward contact Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers at 1.800.780.TIPS (8477).

The most recent sexual battery occurred on the north side of Golden Gate Parkway. The 2016 crime occurred in the area of 19th Place Southwest. The victims in both cases immediately filed reports with CCSO. A composite sketch of the suspect in the 2016 case was previously released to the public. CCSO is re-releasing that sketch in the hope that the public can help identify the suspect.

Detectives said the suspect is described as a Hispanic man in his 30s to late 40s, standing between 5 feet 5 inches and 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a medium to slightly muscular build. He had short dark hair or was possibly balding, and facial hair.

Detectives cautioned that the suspect’s appearance may have changed over time and advised the community to focus on overall appearance and not specifics like hairstyle or facial hair.

Again, anyone with information should contact the Collier County Sheriff’s Office at 239.252.9300, or to remain anonymous and be eligible for a reward contact Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers at 1.800.780.TIPS (8477).
